Tropical cyclone exposure linked to rise in hospitalizations from many causes for older adults

An increase in overall hospitalizations was reported for older adults in the week following exposure to a tropical cyclone, according to a new study. Over 16,000 additional hospitalizations were associated with tropical cyclones over a ten-year average exposure. The day after tropical cyclones with hurricane-force winds respiratory disease hospitalizations doubled.
